TALENTED Diamond Dukes sparkled in the annual prize giving awards at Budmouth Technology College.

She won a the Sixth Form Geology Award sponsored by the Portland Gas Trust in a ceremony at the school in Weymouth.

Diamond, aged 17 of Lodmoor, will receive help towards paying for her first year of text books at Durham University.

Rachel Barton, community liaison officer for Portland Gas plc, said the trust was pleased to award the prize to Diamond.

She said: “The trust aims to support the environment, education and geology – Diamond’s geological interest and knowledge fitted the criteria perfectly.

“We are very pleased to be able to support her and help start her geology degree in September with the best books and equipment.”

Diamond is taking A-levels in maths, geography and physics.

She has been offered a provisional place at the University of Durham.

The Portland Gas Trust is a registered charity supporting projects related to education, the environment and geology.

The trust was set-up by Portland Gas Storage Limited, which is the company behind plans to build a gas storage facility on the island.
