THE devastated family of a young Portland father who jumped to his death urged others with depression not to suffer in silence.

Keith Krispin Brown, 25, is believed to have taken his own life.

His body was discovered in Hallelujah Bay below the 130ft-high West Cliff on Portland.

Keith’s family are coming to terms with their loss and have paid tribute to a young man described as a ‘loveable rogue’ who supported Liverpool FC and enjoyed darts, pool and singing karaoke.

They told how Keith, who worked as a fisherman and lived with his parents in Harbour View Road, wrestled with a drink problem but was on the road to recovery after seeking help.

They also said that Keith didn’t see as much of his four-year-old son Reece as he would have liked.

Keith’s father Trevor Brown, who is married to Irene, said: “Keith had obviously reached a point where he couldn’t take any more and the comfort we take from it now is that whatever was going through his mind he no longer has to suffer.

“But I would say to others that no matter what happens there’s people out there who can help. Many of us are quite weak at accepting help but it’s the people left behind – they’re the ones who have to suffer.

“When you’re in this position you wonder if you did enough and yes, I wish we could have done more to help Keith.

“But you can’t be with them 24/7.

“To anyone having problems – go and seek help. If I can save one life by saying that then it’s better than none.”

Keith also has two stepbrothers Ashley, 33, and Justin, 31, and a stepsister Claire, 32.

Trevor, 47, who works as a laminator, said Keith attended Brackenbury Infants and Underhill Juniors before going to Royal Manor School.

He worked at fish suppliers Copines after leaving school before going on the boats with Steve ‘Squeaker’ Browne.

Trevor said: “He loved fishing but you’re never sure what money you’re getting.

“Keith had several jobs after that but he secured more permanent employment shop fitting working all over the country.”

Keith had a son with his former partner which was ‘probably the proudest moment of his life,’ according to Trevor.

He said: “Keith and his girlfriend were together for a couple of years but sadly they broke up. They stayed friends but unfortunately Keith developed a drinking problem and got into trouble with the police for various things.

“He would listen sometimes but when he didn’t want to hear the truth he would disappear.”

Trevor added: “Keith would see Reece on and off. When he was with him you could see that extra spark.

“I do believe that not seeing his son combined with the drinking led to depression setting in.

“These issues plagued his mind and he tried to take his life but was talked out of it.”

He said Keith showed signs of recovery after that, seeking help for his drinking ‘because it nearly killed him’.

Trevor added: “No-one can be sure but I believe that Keith jumped from that cliff due to things that had happened.

“We are all devastated. It’s still a shock. We’re just trying to cope as best we can. We have hard times to come but we’ll get through it.”

Trevor paid tribute to the community which had supported the family.

He thanked staff at Keith’s local, the Britannia Inn, for their support and his friend Ross Moran for finding the body.

The last reported sighting of Keith was last Tuesday and his body was found three days’ later.

Some of Keith’s friends joined the family at the top of West Cliff at the weekend to lay flowers.

Alex Brown, landlord of the Britannia Inn, said: “Keith was a loveable rogue.

“He was liked by everyone and would do anything for you.

“He was in our pool team and occasionally played football for us.

Keith’s funeral will be held at Weymouth Crematorium on Friday July 24 at 12.15pm.
