CAR enthusiast Tony Wraight from Weymouth has finished a 20-year restoration of a vintage Jaguar.
He has proudly polished off the final touches to the 1938 DHC SS Jaguar following the revamp.
Mr Wraight, of Combe Valley Road in Preston, Weymouth, bought the car at auction in 1997, after it had already received 10 years of restoration work.
The previous owner benefited from owning an engineering works, which enabled him to get hold of rare parts.
Mr Wraight set about a final 10-year project to fully restore and customise the car, fulfilling a life-long ambition.
He said: “I’m delighted.
“It’s had a total nut and bolt, body off, 100-point concourse restoration.
“I bought my first Jaguar in Weymouth.
“Since then I’ve had 30 but this is my favourite of all of them.
“It’s the only one in the world restored to this condition.
“I much prefer the pre-war style SS Jaguar to the Mark V.”
It was the ‘looks, style and rarity’ of the car, which attracted Mr Wraight to this particular Jaguar.
The rare SS Jaguar has been customised with lamps and badges from the original 1938 period.
Mr Wraight went to great lengths to restore the tool kit, tracking down the original missing tools.
He said: “It has the finest lamps ever, ‘Lucas P100 bullseye lamps’ and matching spot lamps, the rarest for any car.
“They look devastating at night.
“I also love the chrome wire wheels it now has and its mascot was made by Casir Brau a very famous French sculptor.
“I like to take it for the occasional drive, although I never take it out in the rain.”
