A TEENAGER was punched and kicked as he lay on the ground before having his expensive trainers stolen.

Police described it as a ‘cowardly’ robbery involving an 18-year-old man who was set upon by three thugs on Chapelhay Steps in Weymouth.

The victim, who lives locally, was treated in hospital for injuries including a broken nose and swollen lip.

Police today appealed for information to catch the three young men responsible who had been sitting on a bench and launched the attack as the victim walked up the steps above the harbour.

Detective Constable Sarah Desmond of Weymouth CID said one of them approached the victim and punched him in the head causing him to collapse on the ground.

Two of the other attackers joined in and they kicked and punched the victim in the head.

Det Con Desmond said: “This was a cowardly attack that left the victim with several facial injuries.

“I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this robbery, or anyone who saw any men running away from the Chapelhay Steps area just after 9pm on Monday to contact me urgently.

“I would also like to speak with anyone who has any information about those responsible as soon as possible.”

The man who first struck the victim is described as white, around 18 years, with blonde hair. No other descriptions are available.

The victim’s black Nike trainers were stolen in the robbery.
