IT’S full steam ahead for Weymouth Carnival after a fun-packed two days which have raised smiles on faces and money for good causes.

And the weather has been kind – to the delight of organisers.

The good weather was expected to continue for the first part of today although cloud is expected this afternoon with the possibility of some spots of rain.

The warm weather may have affected numbers in the carnival fun run, organisers said.

Carnival committee chairman Sue Follan said the run also coincided with hotel evening meal times so there may be a rethink over the time next year so more visiting children can take part.

Despite this, Mrs Follan said all young runners had a great time and were rewarded with a goodie bag provided by Jolly Ollie’s adventure playground.

Events on the beach and seafront have continued to entertain. The Barnardo’s charity have been joining in the fun with activities to mark its new Parent Support Advisor (PSA) service.

Children enjoyed arts, crafts and games designed to encourage families to learn new skills together.

More of the workshops will be held at Easton Gardens on Portland today, at Chickerell tomorrow and Littlemoor on Friday.

Weymouth is one of a few venues in the UK being visited by the Pokémon Village Fete where children can experience the very latest video games and watch a screening of a Pokémon film.

Youngsters also had the opportunity to try soccer skills on the beach in a competition run by Weymouth Football Club.

And budding flyers chatted to personnel about their experiences in the Royal Air Force as the RAF Town Show rolled into the resort especially for carnival.

Yesterday’s events finished with the naming of the carnival bear Borris. Sam Wisbey’s ticket was picked out of the hat by the oldest carnival volunteer Vera Michél. Sam and his friends win a play session at Sharky’s.
