FIREWORKS displays will burst into life in Weymouth and Dorchester over the coming days.

Events are lined up on Weymouth Beach, at Victoria Park in Dorchester, Kingston Maurward and Bovington.

There will be a Guy Fawkes competition at 5.45pm in the Weymouth Pavilion foyer tonight and the lighting of a beach bonfire at 7pm.

There will be a display at 7.20pm and a fun fair on the Pavilion forecourt from 2pm to 10pm.

A free firework display is being held at Victoria Park in Dorchester tonight on the Elizabeth Place Playing Field.

The Victoria Park Community Bonfire Party is being co-ordinated by Magna Housing Association and Dorset Police.

There will be fireworks and a bonfire as well as activities and refreshments from 6pm onwards.

Magna spokesman Josie Watson said: “It should be a cracking night and we are expecting a big crowd.

“It’s a real community event and there will be lots of fun for all the family.”

Magna and Dorset Police have been joined by Dorset Fire and Rescue, West Dorset District Council, Dorchester Town Council and the West Dorset Crime and Reduction Partnership in arranging the Victoria Park event.

A group of teenage volunteers have been trained as marshals for the night.

Richie Webber, Shane Dixon and brothers Pete and Craig Richards have been appointed marshals for the evening after receiving coaching at Dorchester Fire Station.

Josie said: “We wanted to make the event even safer than usual and so four young local lads were picked as marshals.

“They have received full training from Dorset Fire and Rescue Service and have been checking the bonfire pile every day to ensure it’s safe.

“They will be part of the marshal team on the night and we thank them for their efforts.”

Kingston Maurward is holding its annual Lakeside Fireworks display tonight. Gates open at 6pm, with the firework display at 7.30pm. The entry cost is £5 per person.

About 3,000 people are expected to attend Bonfire Night celebrations at Bovington Army Camp tomorrow night.

The will be fireworks, tank displays and a Guy Fawkes competition.

Gates open at 6pm and entry is £3 for adults and £2 for children.

The annual Southill Fireworks display is being held on Saturday, November 14, from 7pm onwards.

The free event, at Southill in Weymouth, is in aid of the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.
