OH yes they will – panto stars will be switching on Weymouth town centre’s Christmas lights on Saturday.

Performers from the Wizard Of Oz will push the button in the New Bond Street square at 4pm after parading from Brewers Quay through the town centre.

Michelle Whitney, who plays Dorothy, Wicked Witch Sarah Aveling and Good Witch Chelsie Padley will be among the stars.

They will be joined by Weymouth and Portland mayor Anne Kenwood, carnival queen Nina Rezaei, chamber of commerce president Nigel Reed and town crier Doris Eastwood.

The panto stars and dignitaries will make their way from Brewers Quay to New Bond Street square.

Mayor Anne Kenwood and her escort Christopher Kenwood will travel in a vintage car at the head of the procession with the Sea Cadets Band.

Santa Claus will also be in the parade, along with Portland Brownies and guests on the land train.

Town crier Doris Eastwood will herald the departure of the procession at 3.15pm before they head to the square.

The St Nicholas and St Laurence school choir will sing by a Christmas tree from 2.30pm to 3.30pm before the procession arrives.

There will also be a collection for the Mayor’s Christmas fund.

The procession will return to Brewers Quay for the switching on of the Brewers Quay Christmas lights at 4.30pm.
