FOR READERS there’s a new opportunity opened at the Old Ship Inn on the Ridgeway.

Kevyn, the landlord, has set aside the snug at the pub as a reading room with shelves of books to browse, borrow or buy – all sorts: fiction, biography, history, travel and any other subject.

Donations of books, in good condition, are welcomed.

It’s warm, comfortably furnished with sofas and a table, and bookcases line the walls. Access is through the bar from 11.30am to closing time late evening – just walk in.

Of course, there are refreshments available if you wish.

Proceeds from the sale of books will go half to local charities and half to a nominated charity.

It’s a really nice idea and we hope it will be well supported.

THERE’S A GREAT idea brewing at the Old School Village Hall for the second half of half-term, with the aim of raising some money for the Disasters and Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal for Haiti.

Laurence Eastwood is inviting players to join in Nintendo Wii games, which he’ll set up with Bill, using the new projector and screen at the hall, he’ll supply the controllers, all you have to do is turn up.

The hall will be open Thursday afternoon, February 18, from 2pm-6pm, then all day Friday and Saturday, February 19 and 20, from 10am-6pm and finally Sunday, February 21 from 10am-5pm.

There will, of course, be a charge as it’s a fundraiser and you should ring Laurence on 815261 for details of the day.

Best of all, have fun!
