GARDEN furniture was stolen in a daylight raid in the Lanehouse Rocks area of Weymouth.

A large, green-painted wooden table and two benches were snatched from the front garden of a property in Benville Road on Saturday afternoon.

The 68-year-old victim, who does not wish to be named, said neighbours saw a heavy-set man load the items into a white van but thought it was in connection to building work at the property.

She said: “The man was seen to lift the table and chairs over the wall and load them into his van.

“It’s stealing, however you look at it, in broad daylight. People should be able to leave things in their own front gardens.”

It is believed that a boy on a bicycle accompanied the van driver.

A police spokesman said the theft had not yet been reported.

Anyone with information is urged to call Dorset Police on 01305 222222.
