THE director of a children’s charity has commended the girl’s intentions in setting up an internet support group but urged caution so soon after her abuse.

Claude Knights is director of Kidscape, which is aimed at preventing bullying and child sex abuse.

“Her intentions are commendable and I don’t want to undermine her efforts,” she said.

“And if I had her in front of me I would be commending her for thinking of others.

“But there’s a period of recovery needed here.”

Mrs Knights said victims and their families have become invaluable in helping other victims but first need to come to terms with what they have suffered.

She added: “There’s no one better equipped to help than those who’ve learned through bitter experience.

“And you are helped by helping others, but this is often better done as part of a group instead of taking this upon yourself.

“Although the internet has great potential for good you don’t know who might contact her and what situations she might face.”
