WEYMOUTH parents started a petition and organised a march after it emerged convicted paedophile David Payne was living in the town.

Protesters handed out t-shirts and leaflets as they demanded the introduction of ‘Sarah’s Law’ to reveal more about the location of child sex offenders. Daniel Riggs, from Fortuneswell, Portland, who helped set up the march, welcomed news that the Child Sex Offenders Disclosure Scheme was coming to Dorset.

He said: “When we held our original march in Weymouth, we were campaigning for three things.

“We were calling for a more in-depth risk analysis to be made, in terms of finding guys like David Payne.

“We were also looking for closer monitoring and finally we were campaigning for ‘Sarah’s Law’.

“I think this is fantastic news. A lot of people are in support of it and it’s great that it has actually come through in Dorset now.”

Mr Riggs added: “The scheme is only in its very early stages and it’s already helped protect 60 children, which is fantastic.

“It has left me wondering though just how many other kids it could have helped if it had been introduced that bit sooner.”
