A BABY who was born weighing just one pound is to be remembered with a special family room at Poole Hospital.

George Seabright was born three months prematurely by emergency Caesarean section last April after his mum Maria was diagnosed with dangerously high blood pressure.

The family, from Otter Road in Oakdale, Poole, were warned that George's chances of survival were very low, but he kept fighting for six months until he died from heart failure in October.

Maria, who lives with husband Andrew and their son Jordan, said they wanted to do something as a permanent reminder of George in the unit where he had spent all his short life.

She added: "The last two weeks we spent all of our time in this family room. We decided that we were going to get the room sorted so that if anybody else was in that situation at least they would be in luxury."

Family, friends and work colleagues as well as local companies including Jopshop UK, Greendale Construction, Buildbase and Plastic and Metal Engraving donated to George's Fund and work has just begun on refurbishing the family room with the £6,000 that was collected.

Maria, 35, said: "We've chosen all the flooring, all the curtains, everything that's in that room has been bought by George's Fund - even down to the workmen, we've paid for them as well.

"It's got all brand new flooring, it's got a flat screen TV and DVD, it's going to have a computer for teenage children, it's got a stereo, Playstation 2 for the older children and we've bought some Gameboys.

"We've bought a drinks machine, a microwave, loads of DVDs and Playstation games, nice music CDs and it's got a settee that converts to a bed."

A special plaque has also been created ready for when the room is officially opened on April 22, to name it "George's Pad".

Maria said: "We just felt that we wanted a permanent reminder of him in the unit."
