WESTHAVEN Kids Club in Weymouth is celebrating after Ofsted inspectors praised the way it was run.

Their report said that the quality of teaching was generally good with staff working well together as a team.

They added: "The club provides generally good nursery education with children making very good progress in communication, language and literacy, knowledge and understanding of the world and physical and creative development."

Children with special education needs were very well supported within the group, said the inspectors, who also said that staff deployed effectively and worked well with plans to support children in their chosen and structured activities.

Leadership and management were generally good, said the inspectors, and parents valued the informal, verbal exchanges of information with staff about their child's progress.

Areas the inspectors highlighted for improvement included making sure there were sufficient challenges to extend children's personal, social and emotional, and mathematical development. There also needed to be a more effective sharing with parents of children's written records of progress, they said.

Club manager Wendy Parker was delighted at the Ofsted findings and said: "We had a really good report and we are just going from strength to strength, getting bigger and bigger, and better and better. We are having an extension built this summer which will increase the number of children we have here for breakfast, nursery, after school and holiday clubs."

BRIDE Valley Fledglings playgroup, which meets at Puncknowle church hall every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9.15-11.45am is also doing well.

Its very good recent Ofsted report was followed by success at its accreditation inspection organised through the Pre-school Learning Alliance Aiming for Quality, and all its staff are now fully qualified.

Fundraising remains a key issue for the group and people are urged to support their quiz - Where in the World - which is available for £1 and a stamped addressed envelope from The Quiz Master, Dairy Cottage, Ashley Chase, Abbotsbury, Weymouth, Dorset DT3 4JZ.

The quiz is also available from Bridport, Dorchester and Lyme Regis Tourist Information Centres, the Crown at Puncknowle, the White Horse at Litton Cheney and the post office at Burton Bradstock.
