IT WAS hardly a classic by any stretch of the imagination as Christchurch fell to a strong and organised BAT Sports by a solitary goal at Hurn Bridge.

Paul West, who had a superb game for the visitors, terrorised Christchurch throughout the match and as early as the seventh minute, he blasted a 20-yard shot just over the Priory crossbar.

Max Frampton in the Christchurch goal then had to pull off a fine save before Pete Moore's outfit enjoyed their first slice of pressure on the visitors' goal.

Paul Rideout, who was undoubtedly Priory's best player of the day, combined well with James Bailey-Pearce but unfortunately for them the final ball from Richard Bentley lacked precision and BAT were able to clear comfortably.

West was then denied by a good save from Frampton while Barry Mason went close to opening the scoring for BAT as the visitors finished the stronger at the end of the first half.

It was more of the same in the latter period with Frampton saving well again, this time to deny Beasley but he was unable to do anything just a few seconds later as BAT grabbed the only goal of the game. West delivered a corner to the far post and Richard Gregory came flying in to stab the ball home.

With 15 minutes remaining, Christchurch attempted to get back on level terms with a good move involving Bentley, Martin Lawrence and John Wyatt but Wyatt's final effort from 25 yards out flew just wide.

Christchurch: Frampton, Linpow, Whitley, Atkins (Stone 70), Hughes, Bailey-Pearce, Gogan (Lawrence 59), Griffiths (Edwards 54), Bentley, Wyatt.
