BEN Rumble played a starring role as Wimborne registered their first victory over local rivals Swanage & Wareham for more than 10 years.

Rumble stole the show by scoring two excellent individual tries as Wimborne recorded a narrow 20-19 win over their Powergen South West Two East opponents at Leigh Park.

Despite taking an early lead, Wimborne were forced to come from behind to earn the Dorset bragging rights - with Rumble taking centre stage.

Wimborne started strongly and man-of-the-match Rumble gained possession before racing from the halfway line to score in the corner after just two minutes.

But Swans quickly hit back to take the lead when Richard Harwood seized on the loose ball to score close to the posts, his effort converted by Phil Graves.

Swans increased their lead when a chip forward by scrum-half Mark Woolley found open space and hooker Robert Elford was quickest to react to make it 12-5.

And the visitors raced further ahead when, following a catch-and-drive move from a five-metre lineout, New Zealand prop Paul Sinclair went over for the try, again converted by Graves, to leave Swans 19-5 ahead at the interval.

Wimborne rang the changes at the interval and, after Swans had been caught offside, Matt Wells reduced the arrears from the resultant penalty, a score that sparked the start of a Swans collapse.

Further Wimborne pressure resulted in winger Brad Nash scoring a great try following a 20-yard run and although the conversion hit the upright, Swans's lead was cut to six points.

Victory was all but secured by a flash of brilliance from Rumble who went over for the decisive try following a scintillating run from inside his own half.

Rumble jinked through two tackles and although some Swans spectators apparently felt he may have put his foot into touch, his electrifying pace saw him reach the try-line for a stunning score.

Wells kept his nerve to dispatch a tricky conversion and although Swans threw everything at Wimborne in the closing stages, the Leigh Parkers held on for a memorable league triumph.

Wimborne: Moxham, Rumble, Grove, Moore, Nash, Wells, Thick, Baker, Shepherd (Abbott, h-t), Brokenshire, Dobson, Leyland, Bethell, Coulling, O'Bryan (Brooks, h-t), Hymers Greg Morgan started and finished the scoring as Oakmeadians recorded a comfortable 45-10 victory over Powergen South West Two East rivals Amersham & Chiltern.

Full-back Morgan notched Oaks' first try - converted by Jeremy Cook - after just three minutes before Chris Walton added a second following good work by James Payne.

And although Amersham managed to reduce the arrears, Neil Tarditi restored Oaks' advantage with another try converted by Cook.

Oaks surged further ahead when Cook again converted after Al Blewitt had touched down with just 16 minutes on the clock.

Cook then scored the try of the match when he accelerated forward, chipped over the defence and regained the ball before going over for a clever individual effort which he converted himself to make it 33-3.

And Cook again converted after Francois Van Schwalkwyk had forced his way over for another Oaks try before Morgan completed the scoring with his second try.

Oakmeadians: Morgan, Payne (Roddis), Harman, Tarditi, Van Schwalkwyk, Cook, Walton, Siaki, Bongard, Riley (Gallagher), Ramsey (Croker), Blewitt, Clarke, Van Heran, Hokianga.
