A PUB landlady's son has been jailed for eight weeks and barred from all licensed premises in Bridport - except the one run by his mother. Thomas Andrew Greig, 31, of St Mary's Place, Bridport, was sent to prison after he admitted assaulting Jason Wright, publican at Bridport's No 10 bar. He was also handed a two-year exclu sion order, supported by Dorset Police, banning him from all pubs and bars in Bridport apart from The George, South Street. Prosecuting, Richley Wood said Greig entered No 10 bar with a friend on September 21 even though both were banned. He said Greig, who was drunk, became 'extremely verbally abusive' when told to leave and 'a violent fracas' broke out with tables and glasses being knocked over. Mr Wood said Greig was restrained by other people in the bar but broke free and lunged at Mr Wright, hitting him around the head. Greig was sent to prison earlier this year for a similar offence and was previously barred from two pubs for violence, the court heard. In mitigation, Ian Brazier said: "He is both ashamed and worried by his own actions when drunk. It has been a prob lem in the past. It has got him into trou ble; it has got him into prison. It does not seem he is able to hold his drink as well as others. "When he drinks, the pleasant and affable character he normally displays is replaced with a very aggressive one." He said the ban might do him a favour. Deputy district judge Tim Pattinson told Greig he may be sent back to prison if he breaches the order. "All the people who want to enjoy a quiet drink and socialise need to be protected from someone like you. You are going to have to be taught a lesson," he said. Bridport section commander Insp Alan Jenkins said: "It was an excellent result and a good example of the police working together with local publicans to send the message out that drunken ness and violence will not be tolerated, that licensees and their staff should not have to tolerate violent behaviour whilst going about their lawful busi ness. "We will be looking to seek similar bans for any future offenders."
