LOCAL branches of Sainsbury's have recalled meat sold at their delicatessen counters following a national salmonella scare.
Stores were cleared of Sainsbury's own Taste the Difference dried York ham after the supplier found the bacteria - which can cause food poisoning - in a routine sample.
A spokeswoman for the supermarket chain stressed that the meat was only sold at deli counters, of which there are 100 across the country.
"The supplier carries out regular quality checks and identified contamination in one sample. Food safety is our top priority and as a precaution, we took the decision to issue a product recall," she said.
The product has been taken out of stores and anyone who has bought some should return it or call 0800 096 6202.
