RAW but refined, rugged and in pure voice with their world-renowned harmonies, Ladysmith Black Mambazo left an audience at Poole's Lighthouse theatre enthralled.
The nine-strong vocal group sang favourites such as Raise your Spirit High, Rain, Rain Beautiful Rain and Homeless - bringing strong South African culture through distinctive music to a cosmopolitan crowd.
Whooping, stamping, clicking, chanting and singing - the performance was truly unique.
Their dancing was unpolished but deliberately so, with improvisation and rhythmic high kicks, which occasionally provided a cheeky flash of red socks under their otherwise native costumes.
The only thing lacking was a clearer description of what the songs actually meant.
On a cold Thursday night the concert was as restorative as a hot bubble bath and a glass of ice-cold milk.
