Exorcist: The Beginning (15) UCI, ABC * Shocking - but only because it is so bad - prequel to The Exorcist finds father Merrin (Stellan Skarsgard) encountering an evil spirit in East Africa.

Finding Neverland (PG) UCI, ABC ***** Johnny Depp shines as Peter Pan author JM Barrie whose magical encounter with a lively family inspires him to write the children's classic. Kate Winslet, Julie Christie and Dustin Hoffman provide equally excellent support.

Five Children and It (U) UCI (not Thurs), Odeon ** Passable kids' entertainment set in WW1 when a family of children find a grump sand fairy (voiced by Eddie Izzard) to entertain them. Kenneth Branagh and Norman Wisdom are among the grown ups.

White Chicks (12A) UCI, Odeon *** Gender-bending comedy from Keenen Ivory Wayans in which his brother Shawn and Marlon dress as wealthy white women in order to protect an heiress. Much funnier than you'd expect.

Wimbledon (12A) UCI (not Sat, Sun, Thurs), Lighthouse (not Sun) *** Paul Bettany and Kirsten Dunst get court up in love games in this slight but effective rom-com about a top tennis player who rediscovers his edge in a young hotshot's arms.
