TOP Tory Oliver Letwin is used to tough questioning in his role of shadow chancellor.

But the West Dorset MP faced a grilling from unexpected quarters when he visited a school.

Pupils at Stickland School held a Question Time session with Mr Letwin when he visited Evershot.

The children, aged between seven and 11 years old, sought the MP's views on everything from local issues to the Iraq war and the Euro.

Teacher Gwyneth Irvine said: "Mr Letwin kindly agreed to come and spend the day at the school and speak to the pupils.

"The day included a Question Time session where pupils thought up questions and put them to Mr Letwin.

"They ranged from issues relating to the area where they live to international subjects like the Iraq war and whether he thought the Euro was a good thing.

"The children regularly have citizenship lessons and showed an impressive level of knowledge.

"Everyone had a fantastic time and I know the pupils got an awful lot out of the day."

Mr Letwin also toured the school site, seeing Stickland's computer suite and plans for a new canteen and staff room.

Gwyneth added: "We're very proud of our information technology work at the school and Mr Letwin spent time with pupils who were working on our video conferencing machines.

"He seemed to really enjoy himself and I'd like to thank him for taking the time to visit us."
