Alanis Morissette - So-Called Chaos (Maverick) Heaven save us from the petty outbursts of pampered superstars hell bent on visiting their neuroses upon us from the safety of their multi-million dollar lifestyles.

Alanis returns with a new album that's easily comparable to the breakthrough Jagged Little Pill. It's packed with hooks, laden with memorable melodies and about as soulless as processed cheese.

Knees of My Bees, with its sitar flourishes and kooky love lyrics, is about as good as it gets. She sounds like she's coming on as the godmother of teenage tearaway sk8 pop - to play mommy to Avril, Amy et al. Just stop it. Please. Out now

Adam and the Ants - The Very Best Of (Sony Music TV)

So, ridicule is nothing to be scared of... Maybe not, but self doubt, schizophrenia and paranoid delusions are - as the sorry state that is Stuart Godard (that's Mr Ant to you) will doubtless attest these days.

Anyway, happier times are recalled by this jaunty 22-tracker that rounds up the best that Antmusic had to offer (Stand & Deliver, Ant Rap, Dog Eat Dog etc). It leans rather too heavily on the iffy post-Ants stuff like Apollo 9 when the compo (and the memory) may have been better served by Dirk Wears White Sox-era stuff like Whip In My Valise which pays mere lip service to Ant's days as a genuine post-punk icon.
