VETERAN musicians Showaddywaddy had Dorchester Town's Avenue Stadium rocking at the weekend.

The seventies stars left music lovers with smiles on their faces after headlining two nights of gigs at the home of the Magpies.

The group, who had hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s, showed off their musical talents in front of a big crowd. Almost 1,000 fans poured into the Weymouth Avenue ground to see the band play some of their greatest hits, including Hey, Rock and Roll and Under the Moon of Love.

Showaddywaddy lined up with five of their original members, Dave Bartram, Al James, Trevor Oakes, Rod Deas and Romeo Challenger.

They were supported by fellow seventies rockers BC Sweet, who topped the charts with hits such as Blockbuster and Ballroom Blitz.

Also appearing in the two nights of fundraising gigs for Dorchester Town Football Club were tribute acts to Meatloaf and Elvis Presley.

Sue Cull, of organisers Court Productions, said: "We had a big crowd here for both nights and luckily the weather did not prove too bad.

"The weekend went brilliantly and everyone seemed to have a good time - Showaddywaddy went down a storm and invited a few of the crowd up on the stage.

"People of all ages came to the shows and we're delighted to help Dorchester Town Football Club raise much needed funds."

Now Sue is gearing up for another series of concerts at Kingston Maurward. They include a Woodstock revival show.
