ECHO reader Jan Ryan cried with joy after winning a £7,000 conservatory.

The 48-year-old wife and mother of two from Eldridge Close in Dorchester triumphed after unlocking the grand prize door at Larkin Windows in Weymouth.

She was the tenth of 12 finalists invited by the Echo and Wessex FM to see if her key fitted the lock, and burst into tears when the door clicked open.

Mrs Ryan, 48, said: "I can't believe it. I'm not normally lucky - if there's a hole in the ground then I fall in it.

"I have been planning for a conservatory for years but kept having to put it off because it was too much. I can put a bit towards this prize to get my dream model.

"I can't wait - it will be on the most relaxing side of the house and we are going to have a big party when it is finished."

Larkin windows managing director Alf Larkin - whose company will install the prize - said: "It's been a very popular competition, we have had thousands of entries. It should take about two or three months to build - it's a lovely time of year to win a conservatory."

Second prize of a £1,000 garage door went to D Tarrier of Church Knap, Wyke Regis, with Echo reader M Baker from Mellstock Avenue in Dorchester winning a £750 front door third prize.
