STORYLAND and the world of make believe were brought alive for the children of Brackenbury Infant School and Community Nursery, Portland, during Book Week.

The youngsters were delighted to be visited by author Sandra Fretwell, who told them how she came to write her book The Pink Pippos of Portland - and she signed copies of her book for them.

Competitions were held during the week for the different age groups involved in designing book covers, story illustrations and book marks.

The highlight of the week was the fancy dress parade when the young pupils dressed as their favourite characters from stories old and new.

Competition winners were: nur-sery class, Emmy Banks; reception class, Millie Thompson; Year 1, Louise Southwood; Year 2, Millie Smail and Alex Hall; fancy dress: nursery class, Devon Ramsey as Cinders in rags; reception, Noah Brown as Doctor Brown, Chelsea Hart-Burrows as Noddy; Year 1, James Bishop as Fat Controller; Year 2, Aisha Djeebet as Ugly Duckling and Bailey White as The Emperor.
