Thrilling exit for Walkden

Bridport Hawks 0 Bridgwater 0

BRIDPORT Hawks ended Bridgwater's promotion hopes with a gritty performance in their final league game.

Goalkeeper Kevin Mundy had a fantastic match to thwart the high flying visitors on several occasions, helped by central defender Charlie Davis, who was also in fine form.

It was an exciting swan-song for skipper Matt Walkden, making his last league appearance in the Hawks' yellow.

He admitted he should have won it for Bridport and was guilty of missing several chances.

"It's all my fault," he said, "I missed four one-on-ones and hit them straight at the keeper, I made him look like a hero.

"But the whole team played extremely well. Bridgwater might have gone up if they had won so we were glad from that point of view."

Promising forward Henry Bloxham had another fine game for the Hawks and Walkden was full of admiration for his likely replacement.

He added: "He had an excellent game. His reading of the game and angles is just superb and his positioning is second to none. If he can get the stick skills he will be a very good centre forward."
