Dorset & Wilts Division Two South Bridport 39 Martock 0 BRIDPORT asserted themselves as title favourites with a resounding victory over championship rivals Martock at the Brewery Field.

The Blues ran in six tries in this top of the table decider and kept Martock off the scoresheet.

A brave decision by skipper Tim Edwards in the second minute set the attitude for the match. He declined to take the easy points for a penalty under the visitors posts, asking for the scrum instead.

The pack won their own ball for Chris Scadding to feed Brett Frampton a neat pass which he duly touched down under the posts for Aaron Holmes to convert. The same movement later in the first half from a scrum for a Martock knock-on brought the second try.

Centre Chris Backhouse, returning from injury, had a mazy run past two inept tackles to score with Holmes converting. Flanker Jack Edwards finished the first half with an unconverted try in the right corner after winger Steff McMasters had blistered down much of the right wing to gift him the glory pass for the try and a 26-0 half time lead.

The visitors regained some composure at the restart and tried to keep the ball with their big forwards.

It was in their favour for a while but a Bridport line-out near half-way led to a long run by Scadding before flipping it to support runner Frampton to dot the ball down for his hat-trick. Holmes missed the conversion but made up for it with a later penalty.

Owen Spooner finished the game for the Blues with a fine try in the right corner after a classy handling exhibition down the line by the three-quarters.

The result demonstrated how far Bridport have developed under the tuition of head coach Jim Wedge after Martock edged this fixture in Somerset in October.
