RAM-RAIDERS smashed their way into shops in Weymouth causing extensive damage.
They grabbed designer clothes worth about £3,000, but in a second raid three hours later the thieves escaped empty-handed after an attempt to steal a cash machine.
Two different vehicles were used and police are keeping an open mind as to whether the same people are responsible for both raids.
In the first incident a dark blue Vauxhall Cavalier was reversed into Fabrics clothing shop in Franchise Street at Chapelhay around 11.20pm on Saturday and clothing worth around £3,000 was taken.
The second raid happened at just after 2.30am yesterday when a blue or green Range Rover smashed into the door of Littlemoor stores and video library off Littlemoor Road. Witnesses are asked to contact police on 01305 767474.
