TWO excellent goals from Bashley were enough to gain three vital Dr Martens Eastern Division points in a 2-0 win at Bashley Road over lowly Erith and Belvedere.

It is also a win that comes straight on the back of their 3-2 victory over Corby Town, resulting in the New Foresters achieving back-to-back wins for the first time since the beginning of the year.

They host Stamford tomorrow night in what promises to be a mouth-watering six-pointer.

Should Bash gain another three points against a strong Stamford outfit, they would also equal their record this season of three wins on the bounce, which came in October.

It is not the greatest of records but, to be fair to John Robson's troops, there have been many games lately where luck has simply not been on their side.

Even against Erith, who are second from bottom in the table, there was still that element of fear in the New Forest camp that it was going to be another of those luckless afternoons.

Consequently it was a look of relief on the face of assistant manager Ricky Haysom, who is still confident his side can break into the top seven.

"It was hard fought and it wasn't a classic, but the entrance fee was worth it though for the two goals, which were both quality goals," said Haysom.

"At the end of the day it's two wins in a row now and, if we can beat Stamford, we're right back in it.

"We know how games in the past have gone and, in the last 10 minutes John (Robson) and I were getting a bit anxious."

Haysom was also quick to praise the contribution of on-loan striker Adie Adams, who gave another workmanlike performance, culminating with a goal of top class to seal the win with two minutes left.

Haysom added: "Adams had an awful lot of work to do. The pitch was heavy and the legs are tired at that stage of the game but he's got a terrific engine and a terrific attitude.

"The only thing we're worried about is if he continues to play like he is doing Forest Green will probably call him back."

Adams played his part in a victory that was expected but not one you would have put money on.

Bashley controlled the match throughout, although the visitors' goal did not come under too much pressure to begin with.

In fact it was the Bash crossbar that rattled after only three minutes via a Robbie Tarrant shot.

The ball was soon switched to the opposite end of the pitch though, and a succession of corners for the home side occurred as they piled the pressure on Erith.

Stuart Cannie had a shot blocked before Paul Gazzard latched on to a half clearance to volley a right foot effort, which sizzled inches past the post.

Just after the half-hour mark, Bash deservedly took the lead.

Gareth Keeping was brought down just outside the 18-yard box resulting in a free kick that Cannie was eager to take.

So eager that he was about to strike at goal direct, until Aaron Cook ran over to inform the striker that it was an indirect free kick.

Within seconds Cannie consequently played the ball short to Cook, who stopped the ball before Cannie curled a superb left foot beauty into the top corner of the Erith net.

Despite Bashley's possession, a second goal was proving to be a much bigger task than expected.

Just after the hour Mark Cannie almost steadied the Bashley nerves with a second. However, after waltzing past two Erith defenders and then performing a Thierry Henry-style drag-back and swivel, which left a further two visiting players stranded, he drove his left foot shot just the wrong side of the post.

Cannie's attempt was then followed by a Keeping effort that was cleared off the line by Paul Foley.

Junior Samuels then put the ball in the Bash net but it was relief for the home side when the referee ruled his effort offside.

Victory for Bashley was finally sealed with two minutes to go when Adams robbed Tarrant on the half-way line of the ball.

Adams then ran fully 50 yards, avoiding the attentions of Tarrant and Foley, before coolly slotting the ball round the body of the oncoming Jani Seitsonen in the Erith goal.

The overriding factor for Bash was simply getting the three points but, two terrific goals for completely different reasons thrown in is always a bonus.
