SPEEDWAY fans get their first chance to meet Weymouth Wildcats riders tomorrow night.

Promoter Brian White is hosting a supporters forum at the Wessex Stadium when a number of stars due to turn out in Weymouth's famous race jacket will take part in a question and answer session.

And White, who has entered a team in an open pairs event at Sittingbourne this Sunday, has revealed diggers are set to start laying the track at the rear of the Wessex Stadium later this week.

He said: "The building work is going really well and we're looking well on track to hosting our first home meeting on August 2. The pits and safety fencing is up and the shale is due to be laid later this week.

"It's incredible to think we are nearly there now and so we thought it would be nice to give fans the chance to meet the riders tomorrow night and also see how we're getting on."

Among the riders due to take part in the question and answer session starting at 7.30pm are Danny Warwick, Paul Candy and Justin Elkins, with supporters also getting the chance to buy Wildcats merchandise on the night.

The forum comes just days ahead of Weymouth's next meeting on Sunday, when Nathan Irwin and James Purchase ride for them at Sittingbourne's Iwade Stadium in an open pairs event, start 2.30pm.

The duo will be up against two riders from nine other clubs including the home side, Bristol, Wimbledon, Leicester and Hackney.

Other sides Weymouth, who will have Alan Berry in charge because White can't travel due to personal commitments, are due to compete against Cradley Heath, Norwich, Lydd and Scunthorpe.

White added: "It'll be nice for us going back to Sittingbourne because that was the scene of our return to the sport after so long. Nathan and James are both good riders and I'm sure they'll give a good account of themselves."
