DORSET tennis stars Jack Hartman and Emma Smith compete on tennis' biggest stage from August 18-23 after qualifying for the national finals of the Road to Wimbledon Under-14s Championship.

Hartman, who triumphed in the Dorset boys' competition last year, reached his second successive final after defeating James Day in the semi-finals 7-5 6-1 at the East Dorset club, Parkstone. Meanwhile in the other match, Tim Hewitt cruised past James Di Capite 6-0 6-1.

The final saw Hartman pull out all the stops against Victoria Avenue star Hewitt, and the West Hants boy booked his return to SW19 triumphing 6-4 6-3.

In the girls' tournament, a strong semi-final line up saw Smith beat Michelle Farley in straight sets and last year's Dorset champion Lucy Ramsbottom ousted Jenny Awford.

Smith from the West Hants Club, played some excellent tennis to defeat the Dorchester star to take the title 6-4 6-3.

Tournament organiser and referee Margaret Leask presented the winners' trophies.
