A BEAVER colony urgently needs a new leader or it will have to disband.

Corinne Faulkner has been leader of Central Dorchester Beavers for the last five years but has to give up her role because of work and family commitments.

She says the group cannot carry on running if no-one steps forward as there will be only one adult to supervise activities, such as games, days out and making things.

At the moment there is a long waiting list of six to eight-year-old boys who want to join the club, which meets between 5pm and 6pm every Monday at the Scout Hut in Sawmills Lane.

But leaders are unable to take on more recruits because they lack adult help.

Mrs Faulkner said: "We need someone that enjoys being with children, whether that is a young person who wants to get experience of looking after children or someone older.

"We had a meeting to try and get people interested but nobody came forward because they had family commitments. It is a shame because it is such a rewarding thing to do and the boys come from four different schools so it's nice to see them making new friends.

"The assistant leader Tom Goss is willing to become the leader but he needs someone to assist him.

"The cub group could do with extra help too."

Anyone interested in becoming a leader should call Mrs Faulkner on 01305 262179 or Mr Goss on 01305 265197.
