LEIGH Adams pulled off a brilliant last-bend pass of Ryan Sullivan to earn Pirates a dramatic 46-44 win over Peterborough, then admitted: "I just can't believe it."

Poole Meridian Lifts went into heat 15 facing their second home defeat of the season.

But with Tony Rickardsson and Adams both passing Peterborough's Ryan Sullivan to record a 5-1 in the final race, Pirates triumphed to move up to fourth in the Elite League table.

Adams, who pipped Sullivan to the line by less than a wheel's length, said: "I just lined up the bike on that last corner and got through past Ryan.

"I couldn't believe it. It was hard work. But we shouldn't have been needing a 5-1 to win.

"We lost the bonus point and to have lost on the night as well would have been disappointing. To get the win was fantastic."

Rickardsson and Adams' remarkable 5-1 brought a healthy Wimborne Road crowd of 3,500 to its feet.

The Pirates supporters' mighty roar of approval reverberated around Poole Stadium, prompting Rickardsson to say: "I hope the crowd were excited by that last race. I just couldn't believe the reception we got going round the track on our celebration laps.

"It was absolutely fantastic. I could see all the fans standing up. It makes you feel great to make them happy like that."

Pirates reserve Andre Compton, who watched the last race drama unfold along with the rest of his team-mates on the centre green, added: "The last heat was unbelievable.

"It is what speedway racing is all about."
