BRIDPORT Carnival organisers are beginning to think nobody wants their money.

So far, only one potential beneficiary has stepped forward for a share in this year's profits.

Chairman Shaun Fox said: "We need to hear from people as soon as possible - there's no point putting a carnival on if we're not going to give any money away."

Last year, the event distributed £3,000 to good causes in the Bridport area. These included the Red Cross, St John Ambulance, playgroups, the 1st Bridport Scouts, the Millennium Centre, Encore Theatre and the boxing club.

And this year, it is hoped that even more will be raised, as the popular carnival fete is being resurrected. It will be held on Sunday, August 17, the day after the big parade.

Mr Fox added: "We usually ask them to put their money towards a piece of equipment but they can apply to be a beneficiary if they need money to help run their organisation."

Applications should be sent, as soon as possible, to Mr Fox at 14 Bath Orchard, Bradpole, Bridport, DT6 3FD.

Teams are also being sought for the tug of war at the carnival fete on Asker Meadows - so far, only two have put themselves forward.

Pubs, clubs and other organisations are invited to ring Mr Fox on 01308 456529 if they would like to take part.

He is also hoping to hear from people who would like to run a fund raising stall at the fete, which is set to be open by a local celebrity.
