GUY Whittingham is hoping to turn out in David Laws' testimonial against Yeovil Town at the Wessex Stadium next Wednesday night, kickoff 7.45pm.
The former Portsmouth, Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday striker knows the Terras goal machine well after taking him on loan last season when he was manager of Newport IoW.
The islanders were all but doomed to relegation from the Dr Martens Premier Division when the deal was done, but Laws' amazing scoring exploits almost helped them pull off a great escape.
Whittingham said: "Lawsy did absolute wonders for us and I think he scored something like nine goals in his first seven games. We were basically dead and buried when he came to us with two months of the season left, but he almost kept us up single handily.
"He ended up playing just ten times for Newport but finished as our top scorer last season. I suppose that statistic is a bit embarrassing for us really and it just shows that our problems last year were in front of goal."
