A PETITION calling for a Poole nightclub to close its doors at 11pm has been signed by more than 100 residents.

People living in Verity Crescent, Canford Heath, claim drastic measures are needed to end the noise, damage and vandalism associated with people visiting the Venue in Tower Park.

The petition has been signed by 105 people and has been presented to the Borough of Poole and Poole Police by ward councillor Sandra Moore.

Last year, the Venue became the first Poole nightclub to be issued with a 3am licence and it currently has permission to open until 3am Monday to Saturday and until 2am on Sunday.

Cllr Moore said residents wanted a reduction in opening hours and an increase in the number of police patrolling Canford Heath to tackle the anti-social behaviour that was blighting the estate.

She said: "We are aware that the new owners of the Venue are doing their best, as are the management of Tower Park. However, we clearly need more police in Canford Heath to target these problems.

"Because of the proximity to the Tower Park complex and the abundance of pathways through open space in Canford Heath, we think Canford Heath is a special case for extra policing on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights."

But Michael Lee, director of Assured Leisure, said he was unaware there had been any problems of this nature.

"The response of the public, the council, the police and the community since we opened has been superb," he said.

"This is the first time we've heard of any complaints of this nature and we are surprised.

"There has been no evidence of damage to property or noise level complaints and we have had no reports from the police regarding these issues.

"If anybody has any concerns please contact the Venue on 01202 733377."
