LIFE in Mediaeval times is being recreated at Corfe Castle this weekend. (May Bank Holiday)

A living history group will set up camp and show the crafts, cookery and combat skills of the 12th century.

During the reign of King Stephen disputes over the Royal succession degenerated into civil war - a period known as The Anarchy.

Corfe Castle's defences were put to the test and a contemporary writer described it as "the most secure of all the English castles" as it withstood the sieges.

The National Trust, which now owns Corfe Castle, is combining with the Feudal Archers, a living history group, to portray life at this time.

An encampment will be set up in the castle grounds at the weekend and activities will take place at 10am-5pm.

Although the accent is on archery and the group are all skilled with the bow, Feudal Archers aim to present a full picture of the times with an authentic campsite, wood fire, cookery and crafts.

You can watch hand-to-hand combat and the training that went into honing the skills of the combatants.
