THIEVES stole rugby skipper Dave Allan's false teeth after breaking into the team's changing rooms.

They also snatched valuables worth hundreds of pounds including wallets, mobile phones, watches and cash while players from Weymouth were out for a training session yesterday at the Monmouth Avenue grounds in Weymouth.

Mr Allan, 30, who is the landlord of the Cutter Hotel in the town's East Street, said he was very annoyed the thieves took his two front teeth and does not understand why they would want to steal them.

He said: "They rifled through my clothes but they missed a five pound note that I had in my pocket.

"Why they stole my teeth is a mystery to me and I am now looking for a dentist to sponsor me and replace the loss."

Mr Allan's wife Sarah said: "Dave had a real sense of humour loss as the rest of the players were taking the mickey out of him and I could see that he was gutted as soon as he walked into the clubhouse bar".

It is believed the break-in happened between 7pm and 7.20pm last night. The changing rooms were not locked and it is believed the thieves sneaked in and rifled through the team's possessions..

The players had to cancel their credit cards and bank cards before they could continue with their training.

A spokesman for Weymouth police said: "Four players had property stolen and we are investigating the break-in.

"If anyone has any information or witnessed anything suspicious they should contact PC Pat Braithwaite at Weymouth East Police Station as soon as possible on (01305) 226300."
