THIS month's Bridport Leisure Centre Member of the Month is 17-year-old Kate Muncie.

Superfit Kate has been a regular user of the centre for many years as part of her training as a swimmer and began swimming with the Bridport Barracudas at the age of eight.

She now swims for West Dorset with a tough training regime which includes swimming up to nine times per week, combining gym work, circuits and trampolining with her work in the pool.

Her achievements in swimming are too numerous to mention but they include winning five golds and four silver medals at the Junior National Championships in 2001 and being captain of the Disability Sport England Elite Training Squad, which is currently working towards the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens.

Kate not only finds time to study for her A Level PE course but also enjoys hockey, basketball and netball as well as giving up her spare time to help teach others in the pool.

Fitness instructor Steve Dittrich said: "Kate's hard work, determination and dedication should be an inspiration to us all, if you put your mind to it there is no limit to what you can achieve."
