GUY Spencer marked his return to Bournemouth colours with a stunning two-try performance that inspir-ed their comfortable 45-0 home win over Calne.

Spencer, who had already notched 33 touchdowns in 53 appearances in previous spells with the Chapel Gaters, increased his club record tally to 35.

Bournemouth supporters had eagerly awaited Spen-cer's return.

And the pacy full back did not disappoint when he produced a typical, hard to handle aggressive, strong, run to notch Bournemouth's second try of the match in the 40th minute.

That gave the Dorset outfit a 17-0 half time that Spencer stretched to 22-0 with his second touchdown 13 minutes after the break.

Bournemouth ran in a total of six tries.

The others were scored by John Versfeld (two), Jeremy Channon and Wayne Spo-lander - also making his Bournemouth comeback - after a spell away.

Andy Weeks revelled in his captain's role by slotting over six conversions and one penalty as they went straight to the top of Southern Counties South on superior points difference.

Indeed, Weeks enjoyed a 100 per cent kicking success rate. Bournemouth will not be getting carried away with success in their opening league match of the season, especially as Calne, new promoted, deserved to have got at least 12 points on the board, if not more.

Oakmeadians, who should be strong contenders for promotion alongside Bournemouth, were pipped 19-18 at home by Ivel Barbarians in their first league match this term.

Flanker Dave Oddie ran in a hat-trick of tries as Wimborne beat Salisbury 29-14 away in South West Division One.

Oddie chased down an attempted Salisbury clearance early on to score the first of his three tries.

He bagged another before half time following a lineout and maul as Wimborne led 19-7 at half time.

And another powerful maul resulted in Oddie diving over for his hat-trick when Wimborne's whole pack crossed the line in the second half.

Centre Mark Griffiths and winger Chris O'Neil, with an excellent solo effort, were Wimborne's other try scorers, while Rod Hudson slotted over two conversions.

It was Wimborne's first win over Salisbury since they defeated the Castle Road outfit in the Dorset and Wiltshire Cup Final in 1993.

Wimborne: Atkins, Tinsdale, Frost, Ley-land, Couling, Oddie, O'Bryan, J Lle-wellyn, Eldridge, Hudson, Stephens, Griffiths, O'Neil, Lamb. Sub used: Dobson. Unused subs: M Llewellyn, Reeves.
