A CLUB record was set by Nicola Selby as she helped Poole Runners to the runner-up spot in the South West Athletics League division one.

With strong performances throughout the season the club's first year in the top division saw them bettered by only Cornwall AC.

In the final meeting at Carn Brea, in Cornwall, Selby set a personal best and club record in the under-17 80m hurdles with a time of 14.5 seconds.

It was one of the highlights of the day with Charlie Rowberry in the same event for the under-15 boys setting a personal best in 13.8.

It proved to be a good day for Nick Phillips who achieved a PB in the under-15 javelin with a throw of 39.46 metres, won the shot putt with 11.68m and ran 12.8sec in the 80m hurdles.

John Towner also ran a PB in the senior 200m with 25.5sec, cleared 1.55m in the high jump and was the best club runner in the 5,000m with 17 mins 39.2 secs from Martin Lewis in 17:52.7.

Mitchell Sykes won the B-string under-15 shot putt with 9.47m, and the under-13 boys 100m relay squad also chalked up a victory.

Other notable performances for Poole Runners were, U17 men: 100m, A Rowberry 12.4; 200m, A Rowberry 24.7, Hammer, K Barton 19.53. U17 women: 300m, S Buckley 49.5. U15 girls: 80m hurdles, D Cracknell 15.5, L Webb 15.9; 1,500m, L Webb 5:25, S Newberry 5:42.2. U13 boys: 800m, J Astley 2:32.3. Under-13 girls: 70m hurdles, A John 14.2.

PAC veteran Andy Clements raced twice on a busy Bank Holiday picking up a second and first place in Cranborne and Shillingstone events.

Despite clocking 33 mins 50 secs, Clements finished runner-up to BAC's Mike Grist in the Cranborne 10km.

He made no mistake in the afternoon, winning the 5.25 mile and 660 feet climb Shillingstone Hill Race in 31.23.

PAC also took the team title with Jason Robbins third in 33.11 and Roy Carr seventh in 34.53.

It was a family affair for the Clements' as daughter Charlotte won the under-nine girls fun run and son Jack was third in the under-five race.

George Atkins and Jamie Speed were first and third in the under-nine boys race.

Twenty-five members of Poole Runners made the short trip to Cranborne where Steve Hogarth finished top male veteran and Christine Thomas took the women's event.

Jill Durham finished second in the senior section.
