THE FUNERAL service for popular young Charlie Smith, who collapsed and died while playing Cricket on Saturday, will take place at Sutton Road United Reformed Church in Bournemouth on Tuesday September 10.

The service is scheduled for 11.30am and will be followed by a ceremony at Bournemouth Crematorium, which is for family and close friends only.

All who knew Charlie, who died aged 21, are invited to the Meyrick Park Pavilion at around 1pm that day for a celebration of his life.

Charlie, a Winton Cricket Club member who was brought up in Bournemouth, attended school in Winton, and was studying business and management at University in South Wales.

Charlie's family has revealed that he died because of a congenital heart defect, which had been present since birth and thanked a local doctor who was passing the cricket ground at the time of their son's collapse and tried to help.

Family flowers only have been requested for the service and donations, to be given to the Sports for Disabled Children charity, should be sent to Smith and Sons in Wimborne Road, Bournemouth.
