CLUB president Harold Iveson paid a glowing tribute to his Boscombe Cliff bowlers after they sealed the Section One championship with a 14-0 demolition of arch rivals Bournemouth.

"It has been a magnificent year what with winning the B and D title and the Hampshire Club Knock-out and Dean Morgan's silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.

"We had some setbacks along the way in the B and D through Middleton Cup calls and Dean being away so much with England. That meant the team was constantly being chopped and changed, so to have won our first 15 league games showed the strength of character within the club.

"Several of the lesser lights like Stuart Trees, Colin King and Ray Daniels have come into the line-up and done us proud and our triumph softens the blow of the A side going down."

Dean Morgan was at the forefront skipping Charlie Munden, Gerry Davis and Stan Jordan to a 26-15 triumph to be Boscombe Cliff's top rink in the 98-61 victory over Bournemouth.

This is Boscombe Cliff's third title triumph in the last four years, their reign only being interrupted by Branksome Park 12 months ago.

On the day their relegation was confirmed. Boscombe Cliff A scored their second successive 10-4 win when outgunning Wimborne 86-81. Maurice Wheat, Derek Fielding, Brian Frith and Tony Gabb (29-21) boosted Cliff with Ray Steele, Ray Harmsworth, Tony Linley and Bob Tappin (25-17) responding for the Minster men.

Argyll are also down following a 14-0 (114-51) roasting by Alexandra Park for whom Richard Cake, Eric Moore, Gary Pick and Pete Willats landed a monster 42-10 victory.

Last year's champions Branksome Park overcame Ringwood 10-4 (94-71) helped by a 31-12 spectacular from Ernie Culley, Paul Mullender, Barry Stone and Brad Golding. Graham Harkins, George Paddington, Barry Seymour and Roy Leake (23-15) headed the Ringwood effort.

With Bob Graham, John Simmons, Roy Brinsden and Peter Langford (28-16) at the helm, West Moors Memorial bounced back after two losses to sink Poole Park 12-2 (91-68), Bob Parks, Mark Conner, Chris Weekes and Paul Spetch (17-16) edging the losers' points.

Southbourne sealed their immediate return to the top flight with an 11-3 (90-72) triumph over Wessex in Section Two. Ray Rankine, Paul Revell, Peter Dockree and Clive Bunford (27-14) did most to help clinch promotion with Chris Lawrence, Andrew Hall, Richard Sawyer and Roy Lench the lone Wessex winners.

Braeside, however, will have to wait until the final day to guarantee they go up alongside the table-toppers after suffering a shock 9-5 (86-82) home defeat against Electric. Matt Dean, Barrie Blake, Ray Cooke and Dave Hart (29-7) fired Electric and Phil How, Arthur Cox, Brian Wrightson and Barrie Horne (29-13) strove gallantly for Braeside.

A 31-5 stormer from Ron Clinton, Richard Lewis, John Taylor and Fred Uren kept Branksome Park A's promotion hopes flickering in a 12-2 (95-51) thrashing of New Milton, Frank Maunder, Bill Wallace, Mike Cox and Derek Handscombe (19-16) preventing the whitewash.

Iford Bridge's late-season form has been of championship standard. A month ago they looked favourites for the drop but now after four successive wins they appear safe, their latest show virtually dooming Christchurch after a 12-2 (84-67) blitz of the Priory men.

John Turgel, Mark Farrant, John Smith and Brian Everard (28-9) sparkled for Iford and Richard Reeks, Spence Williams, Ray Williams and Tony Connor (26-14) of Christchurch picked up the crumbs.

Knyveton Gardens had Tony Bullock, Tom Gooch, Phil Dearlove and Gary Hawes (23-12) in great shape as they conquered wooden-spoonists Kings Park 12-2 (80-60). Tony Bishop, Alan Thompson, Jefferson Paddock and Peter Figg (17-15) spared Park's blushes.

Though their first team have gone down, Kings Park A are marching up from Section Six after outclassing Southbourne 10-4 (81-67). Gordon Wetherall, Des Milnes, Frank Hill and Wilf Bennett (25-11) were the Kings Park driving force while Colin Watson, Peter Gower, Eric Mardling and John Wilkinson (24-15) were Southbourne's best.

Kings Park could even nick the title if current table-toppers West Moors Memorial B slip up on Saturday. Having reached the top, West Moors wobbled at Lymington A where the home side landed nine points (75-73) led by Ray Coe, Bill Rance, Wynn Jones and Lou Barnes (24-12). Ernie Kibble, Derek Miles, Bert Sadler and Bill Bedford (22-14) were the West Moors dependables.

Not even a 26-10 display from Harry Leng, Peter Loffler, Stuart McCall and Eric Thorne could save Highcliffe A from losing 12-2 (84-74) at home to New Milton B whose heroes were Ken Cooper, Don Edwards, John Newman and Fred Newman (23-13).

Boscombe Cliff B threw themselves a lifeline with a crucial 10-4 (74-72) victory over cellar-dwellers Swanmore A. The 23-15 card returned by Ken Bolt, Tom Dally, Ted Luckie and Brian Winmill helped hoist Cliff out of the bottom two with Swanmore staring relegation in the face despite the 24-14 result achieved by Frank Taylor, Harold Reed, Ron Prigg and Fred Denison.

Knyveton Gardens A began their promotion party after a 10-4 (95-92) display at Wimborne B sealed the Section Seven title. Don Pirddle, Cyril Archer, George Brown and Peter Habgood (26-20) put Knyveton on cloud nine while the trio of Brian Gooch, Alan Shew and Pat Pearce (30-25) lifted under-manned Wimborne.

New Milton C nipped above Christchurch A in the race for second place by beating the Priory men 10-4 (80-72). Ken Craggs, Reg Boughton, George Walden and Alan Reynolds (23-10) topped the Milton scorechart and John Kendall, Eddie Joyce, Jim Burgess and Len Perkin (21-16) were Christchurch's finest. Eric Hill, Peter Hodgson, Bill Davis and Arthur Vincent (34-12) went to town as Poole Park C polished off Richmond Park B 10-4 (90-71). Cyril Neal, Derek Goldsack, Bill Clark and Derek Cotterill (20-14) struck back for Richmond.

Bill Brown, Bernie Horner, Norman Bond and Dennis Halliwell (26-13) guided Argyll home 10-4 (78-75) at Southbourne C.
