WEY Valley student Nikki Hamblin showed she is on form to take on the best in the country over 1,500 metres at the English Schools Championships later this month with a superb run at Exeter.

The Dorchester AC member led the club's challenge when calm conditions made for some fast times in the series of 800 metre races staged by the British Milers' Club.

She won in 2min 12.2 sec to break her own club record by more than three seconds and clocked the fastest time set by an under 15 girl in the UK this year.

Fellow student Tina Evans showed she was on the comeback trail after injury by recording another sub-2.30, clocking 2.29.8.

Not to be outdone, Thomas Hardye student Richard Beasley equalled his best of 2.04.7, while fellow student Daniel Cree improved his best with 2.08.8.
