Dorchester stormed into the county final of the Travelsphere Top Club competition with a 91-72 defeat of neighbours Weymouth and Melcombe.

In the competition the top 10 players in each club challenge each other to a game of singles, pairs, triples, and fours.

The opening singles between Dorchester's Freddie Potter and Weymouth's Kitty Mulholland was a tense affair, which produced a cliff-hanger of a finish with Potter winning by 21-20.

The Dorchester pair of Cynthea Reed and Ros Gwatkin had an equally close encounter with Atkinson and McCadden which ended in a 20-20 draw.

In the triples, the county town players Janet Nicholas, Pauline Cross, and skip Sue Jennings powered their way to victory over Hill, Whyte and Jean Dilloway at skip.

The final rubber - the fours - produced another result in favour of Dorchester when Maureen Woodward, Julie Corbin, Margaret Musgrove and the experienced Annette Hallett at skip took on the Vera Boardman rink (Corben, Daster, Reynolds).

The overall score of 91 shots to 72 took Dorchester forward to the County Final, where they take on a strong and much fancied West Moors side with the winners going on to the national finals at Leamington Spa.
