IT'S all change for police in Weymouth and West Dorset.

Officers have moved into a new multi-million pound headquarters at Chafey's Lake, which will serve as a base for Dorset Police's Western Division.

The Western Division had previous been split on to two sites in Weymouth and Dorchester. Administrative staff and CID officers moved to their new home yesterday and other units will join them later this week.

Divisional Commander Superintendent Malcolm Palmer said: "The move has gone very smoothly. The new building provides a much better working environment and it brings together teams of officers who in the past had been split onto different sites."

The new divisional HQ is part of a £25 million overhaul of police stations in the west of Dorset. West Weymouth and Portland police section also moved into new premises next to the new HQ.

East Weymouth section will move tomorrow to a new station next to the existing site in Dorchester Road, with Bridport police going to new premises in Tannery Road on the same day. The revamp of Dorchester's Weymouth Avenue station is due to be complete today.

The phone numbers for enquiries are expected to stay the same. The divisional headquarters can be contacted on (01305) 767474.
