ORGANISERS of a grand showcase to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee have been flooded with calls of support.

Charities, businesses and entertainers have thrown their weight behind the event at the Dorchester Agricultural Society's Cokers Frome showground next June.

It is still hoped a member of the Royal Family will be able to attend the two-day extravaganza, which will feature a military tattoo, bands, displays and exhibitions, funfair, markets, craft shows and entertainment.

Organiser Peter Woodward Gregg, a retired stockbroker and classic car enthusiast of Weymouth, said since the Dorset Echo story of December 7 publicising the event, his telephone had hardly stopped ringing.

As well as organisations who have expressed an interest in taking part, Peter says individuals have contacted him who would like to organise various aspects of the event.

"It seems the people of Dorset are getting behind this event to celebrate 50 years of Her Majesty's reign which is fantastic," said Peter.

"However it's still early days and there's a lot of work to do. I am keen to hear from others who want to be involved."

Mr Woodward said he would particularly like to hear from charities which want their own stalls and owners of custom-built motor vehicles who would like to take part in a display.

He would also like to organise a pageant and involve local schools and youth organisations.

Peter added: "Prince Charles has taken a great interest in Dorchester so I would like to invite him to our celebration.

"Failing that, I'm hopeful a representative of the Royal Family can attend. After all, this event is a tribute to the Queen from the people of Dorset.

"It's events like these which bring out the best in the British public and I am confident it's going to be a show to remember."
