ORGANISERS of a new children's project in Dorchester are hoping for an early Christmas present - a doll's house to bring estranged families together.

The Dorchester Child Contact Centre issued the appeal after launching its services at the United Church in Dorchester.

It aims to help children of separated or divorced people to stay in touch with both parents.

Co-ordinator Brenda Blackler said: "There is nothing quite like a doll's house to help estranged parents and children to relax.

"I do wonder whether there could be, tucked away in an attic or loft, just what we need to bring a smile to the faces of these children.

"We would love to hear from anyone who can help us in this way."

Parents, grandparents, church and community figures attended a recent open evening at the centre, together with councillors, social workers and solicitors.

Mrs Blackler added: "Dolls houses are so expensive and a basic one costs about £60.

"To furnish it would then cost well over £100. We don't want a collector's item, we want one to play with."

The centre is also appealing for people to join its volunteer staff team on about six afternoons a year.
