A CRUCIAL meeting yesterday between union bosses and troubled telecoms firm Marconi, which intends to close its Wallisdown plant with the loss of 571 jobs gave no new answers.

The company expects most of its Poole employees to accept redundancy in October and employees are still waiting to have a meeting with a board director to discuss any possible solutions for the site.

After the meeting MSF representative Brian Harris said unions and management were working towards making the proposed redundancies voluntary and were confident that this could be achieved.

Another meeting date of September 14 has been set for the unions to meet the global chief executive officers of Marconi to receive a more detailed briefing on the redundancies.
