AN Army sergeant has appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of Charlton Athletic footballer Pierre Bolangi.
Dean Kenneth May, 34, who has played in goal for Bashley and is a staff sergeant at Aldershot Army Physical Training Corps, was charged with the manslaughter of Mr Bolangi, 17, by gross negligence together with Health and Safety at Work offences.
He was bailed by Aldershot Magistrates to appear at Winchester Crown Court on Friday.
Mr Bolangi, a member of Charlton's youth team, was on a training course run by the Army in Aldershot when he drowned while crossing a small lake last August.
May, of Aldershot, Hampshire, who spoke only to confirm his name, age and address, was granted unconditional bail.
