MURDER SQUAD detectives investigating the death of Clive Wilcox have urged members of the public to come forward in confidence.

They have stressed no one has anything to fear from helping them find the killer of the popular father-of-two.

Police believe many young people are too afraid to pass on information about the murder which took place outside One Stop in Wimborne Road, Winton, on Friday May 4.

But Detective Chief Inspector Phil James said: "Anything that is said to us will be treated in the strictest confidence and nobody has anything to fear."

DCI James said police have had a tremendous response from the public so far but said more details are still needed.

"We have gleaned a lot of useful information but we would still like to hear from anyone who knows more about the incident.

"In particular we would like to hear again from the many people who have already called in anonymously as we need more information from them."

Mr Wilcox was killed when he was attacked outside the store at 11.50pm.

He and his wife, Angie, had been out for a drink with another couple and went to the shop on their way to an Indian restaurant.

They were confronted by a gang of youths outside the store and Mr Wilcox was struck.

He was taken to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital but his life support machine was switched off the following evening. He died of head injuries.

An incident room has been set up at Bournemouth police station.

Members of the public are urged to call 01202 222311 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
